OWNED ELECTIONS From
Alliance for Democracy
Portland City Commissioner, Erik Sten, and City
Auditor, Gary Blackmer, have proposed that Portland
follow the successfull example of Maine and Arizona
which have enacted
Voter Owned Elections, aka Clean Money Elections.
More candidates running from more different backgrounds
representing segments of the population which
have not had a voice in the past. And some of
them are being elected for the first time. This
could happen in Portland. Learn more about Voter
Owned Elections. And then support Erik Sten's
and Gary Blackmer's efforts to have Portland elections
represent the broadest possible breath of our
citizens.

Burnside Bridgehead public hearing
This
is the final public hearing before the Portland
Development Commissioner on the Burnside Bridgehead
Project (BBP). The BBP is the development plan
for a 5 block area at the east end of the Burnside
bridge. There are three proposals, two of which
include bringing in a large "Big Box"
anchor like Home Depot or Loews. The third plan
calls for a smaller development focused on maintaining
the urban character of the area and sees its development
as a incubator for small business start-ups. Small
manufacturing start ups would be a major component. This
will be the public's last opportunity to discuss
what this area should look like, and who this
area should serve.
This is a big corporate development vs
a locally focused development.
